Walking and Driving Tours

 

Self-Guided Mobile Tours

Walking Washington's Winchester, Discover Winchester-Frederick County, Crazy for Patsy Cline, The Wilderness Road, Battle for Winchester, Family-Friendly Fun, and Follow the Apple Trail tours are available at Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center website.

The Fort Loudoun Cell Phone Audio Tour is presented by the French and Indian War Foundation. Guided tours of the site of Fort Loudoun may also be arranged through the FIWF organization.

The Mount Hebron Cemetery app will help you find notable burials and landmarks with pictures, stories and videos with GPS navigation. Find it on the Mount Hebron website.

Guided Tours of Rouss City Hall

See the past come back to life with a guided tour through the nooks and crannies of this century old building. Tours of City Hall can be customized for large or small groups on most any day of the week with advanced notice. An illustrated City Hall History PowerPoint presentation ranging in length from 20-60 minutes can also be offered in City Hall or at civic club meetings. Call Tim Youmans, Planning Director, at 667-1815 to schedule your group for a tour. Self-guided brochures for this tour are also available at City Hall.

Guided Tours of the Handley Library

Staff members and volunteers give tours of Handley Library on the first Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) and third Saturday (1 p.m.) of each month. Concentrating on the architecture and history of the library, the tours will take you behind the scenes to all floors of the library, including the famous glass floors and the well under the stage. The tours are free, but making reservations is helpful. To make reservations or for more information, call 540 662-9041, ext. 11.

Guided Civil War Tours

Guided Civil Wars Tours are available on a regular basis from June through October in Old Town Winchester, Stephens City, Middletown, and Kernstown Battlefield. A guided driving tour of Cedar Creek Battlefield is also offered. Visit the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center website for more information on these and other tours.
